for trigeminal neuralgia. With 36 years of clinical experience in dental orthopedics, I have cured many patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) through jaw orthopedics.  I believe this is a new solution for trigeminal neuralgia, different than those promoted by TNA the facial pain association.  This solution is much less expensive, less invasive, and  much more holistic.  Treating TN surgically can leave the person with the underlying dental orthopedic defect and thus predisposed to major biomechanical stress.  This will likely result in major increased health care cost over the lifetime of the individual.

Trigeminal neuralgia treatment San Francisco Bay Area is based on diagnostics that evaluate for a dental orthopedic defect.  These diagnostics are primarily based on an assessment as to whether or not the upper and lower jaw relationship is the same for both the tooth dictated position and the position that the jaw posturing muscles want the jaw to be. This is a functional test that analyzes open and close motion as well as speech, rest position, chewing, and biting position.  This is documented on computerized jaw tracking instrumentation (kinesiograph).

It is not well known to the dental profession that the muscles suspending the lower jaw have a very precise position in space that they want the jaw to be.  It is a very rare dentist that screens his patients for orthopedic alignment.  Even orthodontists when treating cases rarely attempt to correct the orthopedic alignment precisely.  Orthopedic misalignment is known to predispose one to a broad spectrum of medical disorders (see dentalphysician.com).

Treatment entails the use of removable dental appliances that reposition the jaw to an ideal functional position.  This position typically takes some months to stabilize.  When the patient  and the bite have stabilized, the therapeutic position dictates what needs to be done dentally to maintain the position for the rest of their life- most often orthodontic type treatment that facilitates growing the back teeth taller (use of appliances, not braces).
